Gary Birmingham (AFAIM)
National Sales Director Yellow Pages – Regional Markets
Gary Birmingham joined Telstra in October 1994 and Sensis in September 2001.
As National Sales Director for our Yellow Pages regional markets, Gary is responsible for managing a widely dispersed salesforce servicing Australia’s regional markets.
Prior to taking on this role in 2008, Gary was the Yellow Pages State Sales Director for Queensland and held several sales operational roles within the business. Prior to moving to Sensis, Gary was the National Call Centre Manager for one of Telstra’s customer service channels looking after several call centres around Australia.
If they could clone Gary Birmingham by about 10 times and put them all into roles occupied by the people named on the right, the company would finally be able to get itself out of their mess.
He’s a legend.
Hear! Hear!…..a genuinely nice bloke all round.
Nice bloke but is totally ineffectual – A total lightweight. The only reason this bloke has a job is because Lyndal Johnson saved him from redundancy at Telstra. Honestly how does a bloke with no directory background go from running and organising trip to being a state and then national sales manager????
Yellow no more you are being ridiculous. Gary is a fantastic bloke and is one of very few that gives a fuck about the people.
Gary doesn’t have a single clue and if you think for one minute he is genuinely a concerned family man you are very, very wrong, just be one of the managers who reports to him directly or indirectly. At least Ange buckley sounded genuine when she stated the were going to give people their lives back, the ” family man” isn’t so concerned about his regional patch, couldn’t stand up to the business on behalf of his people – regional offices to reduce their workload so they don’t get to have any work life balance, they still work them to the bone without a care in the world. Perhaps if he really cared then he would not have lost 4 very experienced front line managers in the last 2 months, between them the had over 100 years of industry experience. He has no spine at all and no care about his staffs families at all.
I really mean no disrespect to those with all that experience but they are the very people the business needs to shake loose. They are living on past glories and benefited greatly from times when it was pretty much about putting a contract in front of customers and asking them to ‘sign here’ please.
Gary is doing a manful job of bringing an ‘old school’ group into the future and getting them to understand it is a very competitive environment out there now. Its pretty painful but he will get there because the people who are behind him (there are plenty!) want to see him and the business as a whole succeed.
He is truly one of the good guys
Anonymous – Has definitely drunk the Birmingham cool aid. Its nice that Gary’s wife knows about this forum and wants to post…….
As yellow said, he is a lightweight. Maybe a nice bloke but you would never put him in front of a customer, for one they would probably think he was retarded, two he knows very little about any of the products. He is a machine man with little value or substance. He certainly wouldnt get a similar job anywhere else.
To Yellow No More, The Not So Cleaver One & Roughneck…what a nasty & small world you live in if you have the need to have a go at people like Gary. Get a life and leave your comments to yourself.
